Prime Minister Conrad Sangma made this decision after reviewing the current one Covid-19 situation in the state.
“Meghalaya will close its doors to out-of-state tourists from April 23, 2021. However, local tourism will continue,” Sangma said in a tweet. He also stated that tourist places that see a high footprint will be closed.

In addition, all schools in Shillong will be closed for two weeks from Tuesday until May 4th. However, the ongoing exams of the Meghalaya Board of School Education continue as planned.

The state government has ordered government and private offices to work with 50 percent of their employees. The situation in all districts of the state is closely monitored.
Meghalaya reported 73 new Covid-19 cases within 24 hours on Sunday. The total number of active cases in the state is now 680.
