MUMBAI REPORTS 3,876 FRESH CASES, 70 DEATHS

Mumbai has now reported 3,876 new Covid-19 cases and 70 deaths in the past 24 hours.

While the total number of active cases in the city is 70,373, the positivity rate is now 13.68 percent.

While Mumbai added a record 11,163 cases on April 4, the numbers have plummeted in recent days, with 5,542 cases on Sunday.

Dr. Joshi, who was mentioned on Sunday’s Mann Ki Baat radio show by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, told PTI that Mumbai’s second wave peak may have passed and the flattening phase could have begun.

“During the first wave, Mumbai barely ran 15,000-18,000 tests. During the second wave, however, the test numbers were between 40,000 and 50,000. Mumbai has peaked as the falls plateau, but the plateau could be longer.” Dr. Joshi said.

He added that the second wave the country is facing is “angrier” than expected, which is the trend around the world, and appealed for people to strictly adhere to Covid-19 norms, even after the current restrictions imposed State were loosened.

He said people need to follow Covid appropriate behavior, stressing the need to continue masking policies, zero tolerance to norms violations, etc. even after the numbers have dropped as “we cannot say the worst is over”.
