Bengal Phase 7 polling ‘peaceful’, 75% turnout, says EC | 10 points


The election in 34 constituencies in phase 7 of the elections for the West Bengal assembly went “peacefully” and recorded a turnout of 75.06 percent, the Indian electoral commission announced on Monday.

Voting began at 7:00 a.m. in 12,068 polling stations in Murshidabad, Paschim Bardhaman, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda and Kolkata districts.

Tratamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee’s home turf Bhabanipur was one of these 34 seats. While she’s an MLA from that seat, this time she has opted for a competition in Nandigram.

Although the elections were relatively peaceful, there were some clashes between rival party officials in some parts of the state.

In Asansol, TMC candidate Sayoni Ghosh alleged that BJP activists tried to block stands in the constituency. However, the BJP said the allegations were baseless and Ghosh apologized to feel his defeat.

There was excitement in the town’s Rash Behari constituency after the BJP candidate’s agent, Lt. Gen. Subrata Saha, Mohan Rao, was accused of molesting female voters at a polling station, police said. The agent was arrested after several women voters claimed he tried to pull her by holding her hands in the Bidya Bharati school, a police officer said. Rao denied the allegations, saying no such incident occurred.

In the constituency of Jamuria, Left Front candidate Aishe Ghosh claimed that agents from CPI-M were prevented from entering a booth by TMC workers, which the ruling party rejected.

10 points in the poll in phase 7 of the West Bengal elections:

1) Over 86 lakh The voters decided the fate of 284 candidates from 34 constituencies.

2) The 34 constituencies are divided into districts such as Murshidabad (nine seats), Paschim Bardhaman (nine seats), Dakshin Dinajpur (six seats), Malda (six seats) and Kolkata (four seats).

Two malefactors carrying seven improvised, country-made weapons and a “single-barreled, long musket weapon” were arrested in the Malda district, the statement said.

Asansol-Durgapur Police Department Deputy Superintendent Srimanta Kumar Bandopadhyay has been appointed as the new Bolpur Subdivision Police Officer. Nihar Ranjan Roy, the district inspector of Krishnaganj in Krishnanagar Police District, has been appointed as the new inspector for the Murshidabad Police Station, replacing Atish Das.

The eighth and final phase of the vote is scheduled for Thursday April 29th. The votes will be counted on Sunday May 2nd.
