Crude bombs hurled in West Bengal ahead of sixth phase of polling, one dead


As West Bengal is preparing for the sixth phase of voting in the parliamentary elections Three incidents of raw bombs in the state were reported on Thursday, April 20. All three incidents occurred in constituencies that will vote in the sixth phase. One person was killed in one of the explosions.

Barrack pore

On Tuesday evening, a bomb explosion occurred at a landfill on GC Road in Titagarh, which falls under the district of North 24 Parganas. The police rushed to the spot and rescued two people from under the rubble.

The injured were taken to BN Bose Hospital, where 28-year-old Rajkishore Jadav died from his injuries in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The other person was taken to a Kolkata hospital.

In another incident in Titagarh Tuesday night, villains allegedly dropped raw bombs in the city’s NJMC jute mill area. This area is near the house of BJP leader Santosh Jena.

Police went to the area on Wednesday morning and retrieved two live raw bombs.

Tension plunged the area after these two incidents.

Titagarh falls under the constituency of the Barrackpore Assembly, which will vote on Thursday.

Jagatdal

Raw bombs were thrown in Bhatpara at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. This parish falls under the constituency of the Jagatdal Assembly. It is a stronghold of the BJP MP Arjun Singh. He was previously a member of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Police reached the site, but no bombs were recovered. Local people have claimed that the BJP was behind the incident. They said the opposition party was trying to panic among the people in order to prevent them from casting their vote.

The constituency of the Jagatdal assembly will also vote on Thursday.

Preparation for the sixth phase

After these incidents, there is a high level of security in Titagarh and Jagatdal. Security forces are trying to instill confidence in voters so they can cast their vote on Thursday.

Both the Barrackpur and Jagatdal constituencies were won by the TMC in 2016.

In Jagatdal, Somenath Shyam Ichini was installed by the TMC, while Arindam Bhattacharya is BJP’s candidate. For Barrackpore, filmmaker Raj Chakraborty is the TMC candidate and Chandramani Shukla is running from the BJP.

The vote in the parliamentary elections ends with the eighth phase on April 29th. The votes will be counted on May 2nd.
