Delhi has again broken its own record for the highest daily count of all time, with a jump of 24,375 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.
Aside from the unprecedented increase of 24,375 new cases on Saturday, Delhi has recorded 167 deaths in the past 24 hours.
The new jump in falls has increased Delhi active case load to 69,799 and the positivity rate to 24.56 percent.
On Friday, Delhi reported a record increase of over 19,000 new cases of coronavirus in a 24-hour period.
Weekend curfew in Delhi
The Delhi government decided earlier this week to enforce a weekend curfew amid the recent spike in Covid-19 cases. The decision came after a meeting between Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday.
At a press conference on Thursday, the prime minister said the weekend curfew would come into effect on April 17th.
The The weekend curfew began on Friday evening at 10 p.m. and lasts until 6 a.m. on Monday.
According to CM Arvind Kejriwal, people step out of their homes for work on weekdays and for recreational purposes on weekends, which can be restricted.

The Delhi government said Friday that those who have a valid night curfew e-passport will not need a separate weekend curfew passport.
“The e-passport that a person has for movement in connection with essential goods and services during the night curfew is also valid for the curfew on weekends,” said a letter issued by the DDMA on Friday.
A notice on the Delhi government website also states: “If you already have a night curfew ePassport, you do NOT need to reapply for weekend curfew. Your passport is automatically valid on weekends (daytime). ). “
