A Delhi court granted Umar Khalid bail in one of the riots in northeast Delhi.

A Delhi court on Thursday granted former JNU student leader Umar Khalid bail in connection with a riot in Delhi resulting from an FIR filed with the Khajuri Khas police station.
Umar Khalid is among the hundreds of people booked in connection with the riots in northeast Delhi last February. Apart from the case that arises from the Khajuri Khas FIR, it is also under booked Charged with alleged involvement in “premeditated conspiracy” in the Delhi uprisings.
While giving Umar Khalid bail, the judge for additional sessions, Vinod Yadav, noted that “he cannot be made to remain in jail for infinity simply because other individuals who were part of the riotous mob were identified and arrested Need to become”.
“The investigation into the matter has been completed and the charge sheet has already been filed. The proceedings on the matter will likely take a long time. The applicant has been in custody on the matter since October 1, 2020. The applicant cannot be held in prison for infinity only because of the fact that other people who were part of the riotous crowd must be identified and arrested on the matter, “the court ruled.
The bail was granted on the condition that Umar Khalid downloaded the Aarogya Setu app on his phone and gave his phone number to the SHO of the Khajuri Khas Police Station. He was instructed to keep his phone on at all times.
He is also required to leave Rs 20,000 bail on his bail and appear for any trial in the case.
The court has ordered Umar Khalid not to manipulate evidence related to the case or influence witnesses while on bail.
The FIR at Khajuri Khas Police Station was registered because of the violence that broke out on Karawal Nagar Main Street near Chand Bagh Pulia on February 24, 2020.
The case concerns the riots that took place in or around the home of then AAP Councilor Tahir Hussain – a key that has been charged in the case.
