Maharashtra records 68,631 fresh Covid-19 cases, 503 deaths; highest single-day tally since pandemic began


The situation of Covid-19 in Maharashtra remains worrying. The state reported 68,631 new cases and 503 more deaths on Sunday. This is the highest one-day spike in the state since the coronavirus pandemic began last year.

The state also reported 503 deaths from Covid-19 and the death rate was 1.58 percent.

The state currently has 6,70,388 active cases

So far, 6/31,828 Covid-19 patients have been discharged after a full recovery and the recovery rate in the state is 80.92 percent.

In its Covid-19 bulletin, the state government said Maharashtra currently has 36,75,518 people in home quarantine and 26,529 people in institutional quarantine.

Of 2,38,54,185 laboratory samples, 38,39,338 have tested positive (16.1%) for Covid-19 to date.

STRICT MEASURES TO BE INFRINGED IF COVID-19 BREACHES

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Interior Minister Dilip Walse Patil warned of taking action against those violating the restrictions imposed by the state government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The harsh new measures excluding essential services went into effect Wednesday evening and will remain in effect until 7am on May 1st.

Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits the gathering of five or more people in one location, remains in effect during the period.

“To curb the rising number of Covid-19 infections, curfews and restrictions should be effectively followed. Measures are being taken against those who break orders,” tweeted Walse Patil.
