Maharashtra’s active caseload climbs to 6.95 lakh with 67,468 new cases; 568 more deaths in last 24 hours


Maharashtra registered 67,468 new Covid cases on Wednesday, bringing the number of active cases to 6,95,747. The state reported 568 deaths, the highest recorded death in a day.

Maharashtra reported 67,468 new cases on Wednesday. The test positivity rate in the state is 16.36 percent.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has recorded 586 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours. The death rate for the state is now 1.54 percent.

There are currently 39.15.292 people in home quarantine and 29.384 people in institutional quarantine in Maharashtra.

MAHARASHTRA GOVT TIPS WHEN COMPLETE BLOCKING

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said Tuesday the state cabinet had asked Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray to announce a strict lockdown in Maharashtra from 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

“This was the request of all ministers to CM, now it is his decision,” said Rajesh Tope.

The Maharashtra government has already put several new restrictions in place to curb the spread of infection. Last week, CM Uddhav Thackeray imposed a weekday curfew as well as a weekend lockdown in the state.
