A 28-year-old Surat resident, Kishan Rupani, was arrested Monday for allegedly transforming a video of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and posting it on social media.
The police recorded one case and after recording his testimony, the defendant was released on bail.
According to the Surat Criminal Police, Kishan Rupani is very active on social media and has more than 5.00,000 followers on his Instagram page “gujju_smilly”. The Prime Minister’s transformed video went viral on social media. He used Taylor Swift’s song “I knew you was in trouble” in the video.

“We would see my son sitting on his cell phone for hours, but I’m sure he is innocent and he has done nothing to defame such an important person,” Kishan Rupani’s father Arvindbhai Rupani told the media.
Police Deputy Commissioner Rahul Patel said the defendant alleged that he posted the video for “likes” on his social media account. Police found the video while searching for fake news related to Covid on social media.
“We confiscated his cell phone and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory for more information,” said Patel.
