Many seers showing Covid-19 symptoms: Two of 13 akhadas opt out of Kumbh Mela


Two of the 13 Akhadas of seers who attended the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhands Haridwar – Niranjani Akhada and Tapo Nidhi Shri Anand Akhada – decided on Thursday to cancel the event, citing the worsening situation of Covid-19 in the state.

Niranjani Akhada and Tapo Nidhi Shri Anand Akhada, two of the 13 Akhadas of seers who attended the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhands Haridwar, decided on Thursday to decline the event, citing the event Worsening of the Covid-19 situation in the state.

Both Akhadas will pack their cantons on April 17th.

“The main Shahi Snan held on April 14th for Mesh Sankranti is over. Many in our Akhada are showing symptoms of Covid-19. So the Kumbh Mela is over for us,” the news agency said PTI quoted Niranjani Akhada Secretary Ravindra Puri as saying.

Increasing cases of Coronavirus infection in Uttarakhand has spared none as several seers have tested positive.

Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad President Narendra Giri is reportedly being treated for Covid-19 in AIIMS-Rishikesh, while Mahamandaleshwar by Maha Nirwani Akhada of Madhya Pradesh Swami Kapil Dev, who suffered from Covid-19, in one on April 13 private hospital died.

With 2,220 new cases in the last 24 hours, Uttarakhand recorded the highest one-day record of Covid-19 infections since the pandemic began on Thursday.

The ongoing Kumbh Mela in Haridwar This year was shortened from April 1st to April 30th to just one month due to Covid.

Under normal circumstances, the event, which takes place every 12 years, runs from mid-January to April for almost four months.
