The former South African wicketkeeper batsman also covered the conversation he had with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star ahead of the 2021 IPL.
Boucher said the conversation was “still very open” and that he would communicate with de Villiers again towards the end of the ongoing IPL.
“I spoke to him before he went to the IPL,” said Boucher. “The conversation is still very open. Since AB is who he is, he wanted to perform very well at the IPL to prove to himself and everyone else that he is still a key figure in world cricket and could dominate at this level.
“I said to him, ‘Do your thing and I’ll call you to the back of the IPL.’ So here we are with him, ”Boucher told reporters, according to the South African website timeslive.co.za.
37-year-old AB de Villiers kicked off his IPL 2021 campaign with a 48 win against defending champions Mumbai Indians. In his first competitive game in five months, de Villiers crossed the park’s boundaries before unfortunately got out of hand.
The Pretoria-born cricketer played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is before announcing his surprise resignation in 2018.
