MHA approves Y-category security for Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla

The Ministry of the Interior (MHA) has ordered that the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla, be granted security in the “Y” category. Pune-based SII is the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer.

The Interior Ministry on Wednesday approved the “Y” security for Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla. This coverage is provided by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The Union government’s decision came after the Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs of the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune, Prakash Kumar Singh, wrote to the Union’s Interior Minister, Amit Shah, on April 16, asking for security for Poonawalla would have.

In his letter, Prakash Singh stated that Adar Poonawalla had received threats from various groups regarding the supply of Covid-19 vaccines.

“We are working shoulder to shoulder to fight the Covid-19 pandemic with the Government of India under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji,” he said.

Covishield, one of the two emergency Covid-19 vaccines approved in India, is manufactured by SII.

Meanwhile the price is from Covishield vaccine delivered to state governments is crossed out by Rs. 400 to Rs.300 per dose with immediate effect, Adar Poonawalla said on Wednesday.

“As a philanthropic gesture on behalf of SII, I am hereby reducing the price for the states from 400 to 300 rupees per dose, with immediate effect. Pune-based SII, the world’s largest vaccine maker, had previously rated the vaccine at Rs 400 per dose for state governments and Rs 600 for private hospitals. Many states have contradicted the different prices for the vaccine.

So far, SII has received orders for 340 million cans from states and 20 million doses from private hospitals in India.
