MI vs PBKS: Ravi Bishnoi, KL Rahul star as Punjab Kings gun down 132 to end 3-match losing streak

Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 9 wickets to end the three-game defeat in the 2021 IPL. After winning the throw and choosing first field, Punjab did nothing wrong in the game when Mumbai lost their second straight game at a trot. Overall, the five-time champions have lost three of their five games this season.

On a slow and sticky Chennai wicket, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul and Chris Gayle found the perfect solution to give the Punjab-based franchise their second win.

With another low target to defend, Trent Boult gave up a run in his first over, but Krunal Pandya failed to pull off Deepak Hooda in the second over. KL Rahul scored two straight limits before Mayank Agarwal scored extra cover for a six on the final ball.

MI vs PBKS highlights

Rahul Chahar gave away 3 runs in his first over. The 21-year-old returned for his second spell in the eighth game and gave Mumbai the first breakthrough. He broke the 53-run opening stand by firing Agarwal for 25. Jayant Yadav followed him up with a one run over and a bowling partnership between the two suddenly started. Chahar (1/19) ended his 4-over rate at the end of the 12th over. Jayant, who made two runs in his first two overs, continued his spell.

Chris Gayle hit the boundaries on the third and fourth deliveries to break the monotony and modify Jayant’s bowling figure. KL Rahul slammed a six against Kieron Pollard in the next game and Gayle complimented him by hitting Jayant in the 15th game.

Of the last 18 balls, 17 runs were required when Gayle greeted left-armed Pacer Trent Boult with a gigantic six. KL Rahul, who finished his 50-ball-fifty in the 16th over, finished the match with a six and a four. With 14 balls remaining, KL Rahul and Chris Gayle were unbeaten with 60 (52) and 43 (35) respectively.

Previously, after the Punjab Kings won the throw and decided to roll first, he removed Quinton de Kock (3) in the 2nd round. The all-rounder Deepak Hooda fired the south paw before doing another decent bowling alongside Moises Henriques.

Hooda, Henriques and Mohammed Shami bowled to the point and only awarded 21 in the power play overs.

Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who played bowling in his first game of the season, chased a struggling Ishan Kishan (6 of 17) on the last ball of the 7th round. Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit Sharma as Mumbai crept to 49 at halftime.

Rohit and Suryakumar, the most successful batsmen in Mumbai this season, brought all their experience to the table as partners for 79 runs with 56 deliveries. They were very vigilant at the beginning before losing towards the end. Rohit Sharma took his 40th IPL fifty out of 40 balls after slamming a line in front of Bishnoi.

Suryakumar Yadav, 33, hit his third and final limit to reach Mumbai’s hundred before 20-year-old Bishnoi hit again on the first ball of the 17th. Rohit Sharma, trying to accelerate, was beautifully caught by Fabian Allen while trying to cross the square leg limit.

Kieron Pollard, who came in ahead of Hardik Pandya (1) and Krunal Pandya (3), remained unbeaten 16 of 12 as Mumbai again failed to score a 150 goal.
