Returning to Gujarat after visiting the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, a total of 49 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past two days.
According to official information, 533 Kumbh returnees were tested for the virus on Saturday and Sunday at Sabarmati train station in Ahmedabad. Rapid antigen tests were carried out by the citizen health teams.
Anyone who tested positive have been relocated to Covid care centers around the city, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said in a statement.

On Saturday, 34 of a total of 313 people who had rapid antigen tests on their arrival in Ahmedabad from Haridwar were found to be Covid-positive.
On Sunday it was found that 15 of 220 Kumbh returnees tested at the train station were infected with the virus.
Gujarat’s Prime Minister Vijay Rupani announced on Saturday Anyone returning to the state after attending the Kumbh Mela must undergo a Covid test before they can enter their respective towns and villages.
Rupani said all district collectors would keep an eye on returnees from Kumbh Mela and would conduct a “nakabandi” (security check) to prevent them from entering their hometown without undergoing a Covid test.
These measures were taken to control the spread of the coronavirus in Gujarat. On Sunday, the state reported 10,340 new Covid-19 cases and 110 deaths within 24 hours. There are now more than 60,000 active cases in Gujarat.

More than 1,700 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 at the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Covid protocol, including wearing masks and social distancing, was openly violated when Lakhs gathered for the ongoing Hindu pilgrimage.
