Former Lok Sabha spokeswoman Sumitra Mahajan was “absolutely fine,” the BJP said after Congresswoman Shashi Tharoor mistakenly sent a message of condolences to her family on Thursday evening. Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Congressional legislature later withdrew its tweet and apologized.
In a tweet on Thursday evening at 11:16 p.m. Shashi Tharoor said: “Sorry about the death of former LokSabha spokesman Sumitra Majahan.”
“I remember many positive interactions with her, including when she and the late Sushma Swaraj asked me to lead a parliamentary delegation at BRICS in MOSCOW. My condolences to her family and prayers: Om Shanti!” said Shashi Tharoor.

Referred to this veteran as a social media user BJP leader Sumitra Mahajan is healthy, Shashi Tharoor withdrew his tweet. He said on Twitter: “I’m relieved if that is the case.”
The congressman also said he had received a message from what he believed to be a reliable source informing him of the alleged death of Sumitra Mahajan.

Reaction to Shashi Tharoor’s tweet, BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya went to Twitter to clarify that Sumitra Mahajan is “absolutely fine”. Shashi Tharoor in turn thanked Kailash Vijayvargiya for clarifying this.

Sumitra Mahajan (78), chairwoman of the BJP, represented Madhya Pradesh’s constituency of Indore Lok Sabha from 1989 to 2019. Sumitra Mahajan, the longest-serving MP, was also the spokeswoman for Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019.
