The government of Uttar Pradesh decided to enforce a nationwide lockdown on Sunday to contain the spread of Covid-19. A fine of Rs 1,000 is also imposed on those who do not wear a face mask.

A nationwide lockdown will be enforced in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday amid the recent surge in new confirmed cases of Covid-19. This Sunday lockdown will take effect in all cities and rural areas in the state.
In addition, the state government decided to impose a fine of 1,000 rupees on those who do not wear a face mask. While the fine for first-time offenders is Rs 1,000, a second violation by the same person is punishable by a fine of Rs 10,000.
The decisions were made during a meeting of the state’s top officials chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath on Friday. The meeting was attended by members of the state’s “Team-11” and officials from the district administration.
Senior officials have been instructed to ensure a thorough clean up of public spaces during Sunday’s nationwide lockdown.
Only essential services are excluded from this block on Sunday. All offices, with the exception of companies dealing with essential services, will also remain closed on Sundays.
Particular attention was paid to the strict implementation of restrictions in 10 UP districts where an increased infection rate was reported.
The UP government has also asked officials to update the list of eligible food aid beneficiaries so that they can receive a ration in a timely manner.
