Tata, Reliance groups pledge help to increase production, supply of medical oxygen for Covid-19 patients

The Tata Group and Reliance Group have announced that they will support government efforts to increase the production and supply of medical oxygen in the country to overcome its lack and fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a tweet Tuesday, the Tata Group said it was “determined to do as much as possible” to bolster India’s fight against Covid-19. The group announced that it would import 24 cryogenic containers for transporting liquid oxygen to overcome the shortage.

“PM @ narendramodi’s appeal to the people of India is commendable and we at Tata Group are determined to do as much as possible to step up the fight against Covid-19. To alleviate the oxygen crisis, here is such an effort, to strengthen health infrastructure. The Tata group is importing 24 cryogenic containers to carry liquid oxygen and reduce oxygen starvation in the country, “the Tata group said in a series of tweets.

Meanwhile, the Reliance Group has also committed to increasing oxygen supplies to over 700 tons per day in states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, where Covid-19 cases are increasing.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the situation in Covid-19, in which he called on all parts of society to come forward and contribute to the fight against Covid-19.

In a report citing sources, PTI News Agency said that Mukesh Ambanis Reliance Industries Ltd has optimized production at their Jamnagar oil refineries to produce over 700 tons of medical-grade oxygen daily, which is delivered free to states, who are severely affected by Covid-19.

The report added that Reliance’s Jamnagar refineries in Gujarat initially produced 100 tons of medical-grade oxygen, which quickly grew to over 700 tons.

Caring for states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will help over 70,000 critically ill patients every day. The company plans to increase its medical oxygen production capacity to 1,000 tons, PTI reported, citing sources.

It added that Reliance will not charge states for the supply and transportation of oxygen and that this will be part of its CSR initiative.

Meanwhile, the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have also begun redirecting oxygen produced in their refineries to supplement the availability of medical oxygen in the states hardest hit by Covid-19.

Indian Oil Corporation announced on Monday that it had started supplying 150 tons of oxygen to various hospitals in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab free of charge.

BPCL also stated that it had taken up the free delivery of 100 tons of oxygen.
