US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday his decision to elect a top attorney and executive, both Indian-American women, to central government positions.

Joshi was elected administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration at the Department of Transportation while Fox was elected Assistant Administrator for Water, Environmental Protection Agency, the White House said in a statement.

The US president also announced his desire to appoint Faisal Amin as Chief Financial Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Amin is the current Deputy Director of the Administrative Office in the President’s Executive Office.

The three nominations were part of President Biden’s decision to select 12 members to oversee climate and transportation departments in key agencies, including the Department of Energy, the Interior Department, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation.

Joshi, a senior attorney with more than a decade of experience in leading government regulators, was the chairman and CEO of New York’s Taxi and Limousine Commission, the nation’s largest regulatory agency for rental transportation, where she led novel Vision Zero campaigns using data tools to keep high-risk drivers and drivers unsafe vehicles off the road.
