West Bengal election Phase 5 voting today in 45 seats; bypolls in 6 states | 10 points


The vote for 45 assembly seats will take place on Saturday in West Bengal Phase 5 of the parliamentary elections meanwhile, voters will seal the fate of 342 candidates. These 45 seats are spread across districts such as North 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman, Nadia, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

The Phase 5 survey comes at a time when both India and West Bengal are seeing a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases. On Friday India saw his highest one day spike record over 2.7 lakh Covid-19 cases. West Bengal has also broken its previous daily record with 6,910 Covid 19 cases and 26 deaths.

Elections have been held in 135 constituencies so far and the remaining 159 seats are due to vote between April 17 and 29.

Aside from West Bengal, there will also be elections in six states on Saturday, with a by-election for nine assembly seats and one Lok Sabha.

1) About 1 crore People are entitled to vote in the fifth phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. They will vote in 45 constituencies and seal the electoral fate of 342 candidates.

2) Vote will be held in 15,789 polling stations in the 45 constituencies. Of these, 16 are located in North 24 Parganas, eight each in Purba Bardhaman and Nadia, seven in Jalpaiguri, five in Darjeeling and one in Kalimpong district.

3) Of the 45 17 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and three for the Scheduled Tribes (ST).

4) This phase is crucial for the ruling Trinamool Congress. Last time it won 32 of the 45 seats that polls will take place on Saturday. This time, however, it faces a huge challenge from the BJP, which moved into Bengal after the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. Five years ago, the Left Congress Alliance sacked 10 of the 45 seats that are part of Phase 5.

6) The 45 seats where is queried on Saturday are: Dhupguri (SC), Maynaguri (SC), Jalpaiguri (SC), Rajganj (SC), Abgram-Fulbari, Mal (ST), Nagrakata (ST), Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Klassenong, Matigara-Naxalbari (SC), Siliguri , Phansidewa (ST), Santipur, Ranaghat Uttar Paschim, Krishnaganj (SC), Ranaghat Uttar Purba (SC), Ranaghat Dakshin (SC), Chakdaha, Kalyani (SC), Haringhata (SC), Panihati, Kamarhati, Baranagar, Dum Dum , Rajarhat Neustadt, Bidhannagar, Rajarhat Gopalpur, Madhyamgram, Barasat, Deganga, Haroa, Minakhan (SC), Sandeshkhali (ST), Basirhat Dakshin, Basirhat Uttar, Hingalganj (SC), Khandaghosh (SC), Bardhaman Dakshin, Raina (SC) )), Jamalpur (SC), Monteswar, Kalna (SC), Memari and Bardhaman Uttar (SC).
