With over 2 lakh new Covid-19 cases, India steps into weekend curfews as study proves coronavirus is airborne


India appears to be reliving 2020 as states go back into relock mode to tackle the unprecedented surge in daily coronavirus cases.

Several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan have decided to bring back strict Covid-19 curbs such as Night curfews and weekend curfews to cut the chain of transmission in the second wave of Covid-19. Maharashtra announced a 15-day curfew on Tuesday.

While The Uttar Pradesh government announced a nationwide lockdown on Sunday To curb the spread of Covid-19, the Delhi government announced a curfew for the weekend, starting at 10 p.m. on Friday evening through 6 a.m. on Monday.

India’s one-day record on Friday also crossed the 2 lakh mark, with Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh making the biggest contributions.

Meanwhile, the Kumbh Mela continues to be a cause for concern as over 1,701 cases of Covid-19 have been discovered among those taking part in the pilgrimage. On Thursday, two of the 13 Akhadas of seers attending the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhands Haridwar – Niranjani Akhada and Tapo Nidhi Shri Anand Akhada – decided to opt out of the event due to the worsening situation of Covid-19 in the state.

1. India has signed up over 2-lakh fresh cases of coronavirus on Friday, for the third day in a row. While the Union’s Ministry of Health will announce the 24-hour case number on Saturday morning, states such as Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are among the largest contributors.

2. Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Friday were among the states that reported theirs highest one-day peak in Covid-19 cases. Delhi reported 19,486 new cases, Maharashtra recorded a jump of 63,729 cases, Uttar Pradesh recorded 27,426 cases, while Bihar recorded an increase of 6,253 new Covid-19 cases.

3. The government of Uttar Pradesh has taken measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 and has announced that there will be one Lockdown across the state on Sunday. In addition, the state government decided to impose a fine of 1,000 rupees on those who do not wear a face mask. While the fine for first-time offenders is Rs 1,000, a second violation by the same person is punishable by a fine of Rs 10,000.

4. Delhi has also gone into one Weekend curfew that started at 10 p.m. on Friday and will be in effect on Monday until 6am. Only essential services are exempt from the weekend curfew and interstate traffic continues.

5. Rajasthan is also experiencing a weekend curfew that began at 6pm on Friday and continues until 5am on Monday. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh government also announced a lockdown on union territory from 10pm on Friday to 5am on Monday over the weekend.

6. The current wave of Covid-19 is not sparing anyone, not even the Union and the Prime Ministers. On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tepositive for coronavirus for the second time. 8. On Thursday, the center announced that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board exams for Grade 10 had been canceled, while Grade 12 board exams had been postponed amid the situation in Covid-19.

9. The Kumbh Mela currently taking place in Uttarakhands Haridwar remains a cause for concern. On Friday, 24 saints attending the Kumbh Mela tested positive For Covid-19, Dr. SK Jha, Haridwar’s Chief Medical Officer. Mahant Ravindra Puri, secretary of Niranjani Akhara, tested positive for Covid-19 at the Kumbh Mela on Friday. Previously, Narendra Giri, head of Niranjani Akhara, had also tested positive for Covid-19. He is admitted to AIIMS in Rishikesh.

10. In another development, a report was published in the journal The Lancet has rejected the prevailing scientific view that SARS-CoV-2The coronavirus that causes Covid-19 isn’t an airborne pathogen. The report’s authors listed 10 reasons for their claim that “SARS-CoV-2 is primarily transmitted by air”.

11. In order to meet the rising demand for Covid-19 vaccines in India in rising cases, the central government announced on Friday Financial support worth Rs 65 crore to Bharat Biotech to increase the production of Covaxin. Covaxin is India’s indigenous Covid-19 vaccine and is used as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign. It was developed and manufactured by Bharat Biotech.
