Alipurduar district in Bengal on high alert: Indo-Bhutan border sealed ahead of counting day


The Indian-Bhutanese border in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal was sealed before the votes were counted for the general election. Checkpoints have also been set up along the interstate border between Assam and Bengal.

Alipurduar district in West Bengal was put on alert ahead of the counting of votes for the general election beginning Sunday. The vote for the 294-member Legislative Assembly in West Bengal took place in eight phases between March 27 and April 29.

On Saturday, the international border area of ​​Indo-Bhutan was sealed by the authorities for security reasons. In addition, checkpoints have been set up on the interstate border between West Bengal and Assam. Alipurduar District Magistrate Surendra Kumar Meena has confirmed the same thing.

According to official information, the Alipurduar district administration and intelligence services will closely monitor activities on the border with Bhutan during the vote count.

Additional battalions of central armed forces were deployed in the Alipurduar district to guard both the Indian-Bhutanese border and the state border between West Bengal and Assam. Counts for Assam’s three-phase congregation election will also take place on Sunday.

BJP versus TMC in Alipurduar

If the enthusiasm in political circles is to be believed, there will be a three-way election campaign in the constituency of the Alipurduar assembly (number 12).

There will be a direct battle between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP on four out of five seats in Alipurduar. These are Kalchini, Kumargram, Falakata and Madarihat-Birpara.

Based on the results of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP is likely to lead in all five seats in Alipurduar district.

The district president of the BJP in Alipurduar, Ganga Prasad Sharma, is optimistic that he will win all five assembly seats under his command.

Meanwhile, TMC District President Mridul Goswami said the results of the Alipurduar congregation polls will differ from those of the 2019 general election.
