For the first time, Amazon has launched a “miniTV” for users in India in its shopping app. The Amazon miniTV is an advertising-financed “free video streaming service” which, unlike other streaming apps, does not require a paid subscription.
“In a global premiere for Amazon, Amazon.in announced the launch of miniTV today. MiniTV is a free, ad-supported video streaming service available in the Amazon Shopping app,” said Amazon in a blog post.

What is Amazon miniTV?
According to Amazon, the miniTV was “professionally created and curated” for web series, comedy shows, tech news, food, beauty, fashion, and more.
The list includes leading studios such as – TVF, Pocket Aces and leading comedians – Ashish Chanchlani, Amit Bhadana, Round2Hell, Harsh Beniwal, Shruti Arjun Anand, Elfen Yadav, Prajakta Koli, Swagger Sharma, Aakash Gupta and Nishant Tanwar.
In addition, viewers on Amazon miniTV will be informed about the latest products and trends by technology expert Trakin Tech, fashion and beauty experts such as Sejal Kumar, Malvika Sitlani, Jovita George, Prerna Chhabra and ShivShakti.
For gourmets, the miniTV offers content from Kabita’s kitchen, Cook with Nisha and Gobble.
Amazon said its miniTV will add “many more new and exclusive videos” in the coming months.
How is Amazon miniTV different from Amazon Prime Video?
The launch of Amazon miniTV comes at a time when Amazon already has a widespread video entertainment platform – Prime Video. How do these two differ?
Unlike Amazon Prime Video, which is based on an Amazon Prime subscription, miniTV is completely free and does not require a separate app. It can be used in the same app that you use to shop online.
That said, Amazon Prime Video has a collection of Amazon Originals, latest movies, and TV shows in English and nine Indian languages. Viewers can also access Prime Video through the app or stream it on their smart TVs.
Currently only on Android phones
Currently, Amazon miniTV is only available on the Amazon India shopping app for Android phones.
“miniTV will be expanded to include iOS apps and mobile web in the coming months,” said Amazon.
