Andhra MP, who criticised CM Jagan Mohan Reddy and asked court to cancel his bail, arrested for sedition


The Andhra Pradesh Police Department’s CID arrested YSR Congress Party MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju on Friday for sedition.

The MP was arrested from his home in Hyderabad on Friday’s birthday. The Narsapuram MP was booked under sections 124A (riot), 153A (promoting hostility between various groups), 505 (inciting any class or community of persons to commit a crime) with 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Criminal Code.

Why was the leader of the YSR CP in Andhra arrested?

Raghu Ramakrishna Raju was arrested fAfter his revolt against the party leader and Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

A critic of the Andhra CM, Raju’s arrest comes days after asking a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation to overturn bail YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on a disproportionate property case. The MP also filed a motion to have Andhra CM’s bail waiver.

What did CID say when he was arrested?

When the YSR CP leader was arrested, the CID said the Narasapur MP “conducted hate speech against certain communities and promoted dissatisfaction with the government”.

CID officials said a preliminary investigation was ordered by ADG, which found that “Raju, through his regular speeches, was making systematic, schematic efforts to create community tension and attack various government dignitaries in ways that lead to one.” Loss of confidence will result in the government they represent “.

“His speeches and actions aimed at intentionally inciting hatred and contempt against the government of the state. A number of attempts have been made to this end,” added the CID official.

The rebellious MP of the ruling YSR congress had written to the center claiming that his cell phones were tapped by state intelligence agencies in Andhra Pradesh.

In a letter to the Union’s Interior Minister AK Bhalla dated August 2020, the Lok Sabha MP also claimed that he had received threatening calls from strange numbers with codes from Romania, Denmark, Switzerland, South Korea and Spain.

The YSRCP had also reached out to the Lok Sabha spokesman to request his disqualification because Raju had received Category Y security coverage from the Central Armed Police Force following a petition to the Union Interior Minister.
