A retired school principal who claimed to be cured of Covid-19 19 minutes after taking an Ayurvedic miracle in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore has died. N Kotaiah took his last breath on Monday at GGH Nellore.

N Kotaiah was rushed to the Nellore Government General Hospital Friday evening after his oxygen levels dropped. A few days ago a video announcing a speedy recovery after taking an Ayurvedic medicine had gone viral.

N Kotaiah said he took a “herbal eye drop” from Bonigi Anandaiah of Krishnapatnam, Nellore and later claimed he was cured from Covid-19. Thousands of people were asked to gather in Krishnapatnam village to collect Ayurvedic “healing”.

“He had several other ailments and died earlier that morning on Monday,” said Dr. Sudhakr Reddy, the superintendent of GGH, told Nellore to India Today TV.

Meanwhile, health sources have reported that at least three members of the Anandaiah team tested positive for Covid-19 on the rapid antigen test. Samples from over 20 villagers were also sent for RT-PCR testing after showing symptoms of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh’s Prime Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who was holding a review meeting, decided to approve the locally made Ayurvedic preparation for the Covid battle. The eye drops developed by Anandaiah have not been approved.

The decision of the state government was based on the study report of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS).
