At one point, there will be waves after waves but as a community, we would develop tolerance and herd immunity:Dr Chetty

Doctors talk about the theory of herd immunity, whether or not it will actually help us in the long run. Read the copy to see what the doctors have to say.

Doctors from around the world mentioned that with each new wave of Covid, the effects of the disease could become comparatively less effective as we as a community develop tolerance.

Doctors also mentioned that the only way to decrease the intensity is to vaccinate people. Dr. Ambarish Satwik also supported the importance of vaccination, saying as long as people are vulnerable the virus will find an opportunity to multiply and spread.

WHAT DOCTORS HAVE TO SAY

Dr. Shankara Chetty, a doctor in South Africa

I think our outlook is a little hopeful. We have seen a herd community develop among the blacks, who were worst hit in the first wave.

So I think the effect of the third wave will be a lot less than that of the third wave. At some point we will have wave after wave, but as a community we would develop tolerance and herd immunity. Cases will decline by the end of the year. Coronavirus will definitely be with us, but as an endemic.

DR. Ambarish Satwik, Endovascular Surgeon

Herd immunity, a combination of disease-related herd immunity and vaccine-induced herd immunity. They are not ecologically sovereign nations in the world. There are no sanctuaries. This is because the virus only mutates within a human. It cannot mutate on the door handle, railing or in the air. As long as the virus is being transmitted, there is a chance that the virus could mutate.

As long as there are areas of the world that are not vaccinated, where people are susceptible, the virus will find an opportunity to multiply and spread and thereby spread. The only way to stop mutations is to vaccinate as many people as people.

WHAT IS STOVE IMMUNITY?

  • Herd immunity refers to a situation where enough people in a population have immunity to infection to effectively stop the spread of the disease.
  • For herd immunity, it doesn’t matter whether the immunity came from vaccinations or from people who had the disease. What matters is that they are immune.
  • With the new coronavirus infection – COVID-19 – more and more people are becoming infected and there will be more people who will recover and then become immune to future infections.
  • “When about 70% of the population is infected and recovered, the chance of an outbreak is much lower because most people are resistant to infection,” said Martin Hibberd, professor of emerging infectious diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
