Maharashtra has declared Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal “sensitive sites” to stop the influx of other variants of the coronavirus into the state.

Last month the state of Kerala, Goa, Gujarat, Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) declared Rajasthan and Uttarakhand to be places of sensitive origin.

The Maharashtra government said Saturday that standard operating procedures for other places of sensitive origin will also apply to travelers from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

According to SOPs for Locations of Sensitive Origin, passengers traveling to Maharashtra from these locations are required to have a negative RT-PCR test report performed within 48 hours of their train journey.

The decision was made to curb coronavirus transmission in Maharashtra and “stop the influx of other Covid-19 virus variants from other locations into the state,” the state said in its order last month.

“These locations are considered locations of sensitive origin from the date of this order until the time of withdrawal or until notification of Covid-19 as a disaster,” it said.

According to the SOPs, for passengers traveling on long-distance trains from these locations, the railways will notify the local civil protection authorities of the dates of the trains to travel between these locations and stations in Maharashtra in accordance with the SOPs.

The data of the passengers will be passed on to the local civil protection agency every day, four hours before departure from the origin of the trains, the government said.

Unrestricted tickets to Maharashtra are not issued from these locations. The railways should ensure that trains go from places of sensitive origin to outside platforms where it is easier to carry out thermal checks (of passengers), the regulation says.

If passengers do not carry the RT-PCR negative report, they will have to undergo a rapid antigen test at the station, he added.
