Covid curfew in Uttar Pradesh extended till May 24; relief measures announced for ration card holders


While the Uttar Pradesh government announced a series of relief measures for ration card holders and day laborers, it extended the nationwide curfew on Covid to May 24 on Saturday.

The restrictions aimed at breaking the chain of Covid-19 transmission in Uttar Pradesh have been extended to May 24th. The decision was made during a State Cabinet meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday.

A press release said the UP government had made arrangements for free Covid tests and treatments. The vaccination campaign, which is being carried out at the expense of the state, is also underway, the statement added.

Uttar Pradesh reported 12,547 new confirmed cases of infection on May 15, along with an additional 28,404 recoveries. A total of 2.56 lakh samples across the state have been tested for infection in the past 24 hours. UP now has 1,77,643 active cases.

Aside from basic education, all government educational institutions have been asked to conduct online courses by May 20.

In addition, all health care workers in the state receive life insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh and health insurance of Rs 5 lakh.

Financial support, ration for ration card holders

The state government decided on Saturday to give away 3 kg of wheat and 2 kg of rice every month Grocery card holders for the next three months. Officials say this initiative will benefit up to 15 crore of people who own ration cards Antodaya and eligible household category.

Day laborers, street vendors, e-rickshaw drivers, laundromats, hairdressers, shoemakers and other such workers receive 1,000 rupees from the UP government as financial support. This, officials say, will benefit an additional 1 crore people living in Uttar Pradesh.
