Three members of the Chennai Super Kings franchise have tested positive for Covid-19, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 confirmed on Monday. CSK boss Kasi Viswanathan, bowling trainer L Balaji and a bus cleaner have reportedly returned the positive results.

None of the players contracted the virus after a new round of testing was conducted on Sunday. The CSK squad is currently stationed in Delhi and had to cancel its training session after the news of the positive results broke out.

IPL 2021 will be played in bio-bubbles in 6 cities – Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.

The CSK contingent was also affected by coronavirus last year, when the opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad and the fast bowler Deepak Chahar, together with at least 8 other members, tested positive for Covid a few weeks before IPL 2020.

As per IPL guidelines, players or franchise members who test positive for Covid must be in isolation for 10 days and then return 2 negative tests before they can be re-admitted to the bladder.

KKR postponed against RCB

The news from the CSK camp comes just hours after two Kolkata Knight Riders players tested positive for coronavirus, forcing IPL organizers to postpone the game on Monday. KKR was scheduled to face Royal Challengers Bangalore at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and the Pacer Sandeep Warrior are the two players who have contracted the coronavirus, confirmed the tournament officials.

5 players have already left the tournament in the middle of the 14th season as India continues to battle the dangerous second wave of Covid. The country is grappling with acute shortages of oxygen, hospital beds, and even vaccines, while the number of corona cases is rising rapidly.

India saw a slight drop in daily Covid-19 cases on Monday as it had registered over 3.68 lakh cases in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Ministry of Health. A total of 3,417 people died from the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 2:18,959.
