Cyclone Tauktae Mumbai Live: Heavy rains lash Mumbai suburbs, Bandra-Worli sea link closed


While cyclone Tauktae is expected to cross the Arabian Sea near Mumbai, the Indian Meteorological Service (IMD) has indicated that it will most likely bring rain and strong winds to the city.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed the District Disaster Management Authority in a virtual review meeting that the cyclone posed no threat to the BMC premises. However, since it flows through the sea near Mumbai, its impact will most likely be accompanied by rain and strong winds.

Given the forecast made by the Meteorological Department, citizens were advised to avoid leaving their homes.

Citizens’ Bureau also advised citizens not to go to places like Chowpatty in Mumbai or near the beach. In addition, the Mumbai Police and Fire Brigade have been instructed to take appropriate action in this regard.

11:23 am: With the approach of the upcoming cyclone Tauktae, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will close all flight operations from 1100 to 1400 on May 17, 2021 as a precaution. The airport has so far experienced 3 diversions – 1 Spicejet and 2 Indigo flights, the were diverted to Surat, Lucknow and Hyderabad. Further updates will follow.
