DMK chief MK Stalin takes oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister


After around a decade in the political wilderness, DMK President MK Stalin took the oath as Prime Minister of Tamil Nadu on Friday.

The DMK boss took the oath from the governor of Tamil Nadu, Banwarilal Purohit, in the Raj Bhavan in Chennai. MK Stalin was the next Tamil Nadu CM to be sworn in along with 34 members of his cabinet.

MK Stalin is likely to hold home and other portfolios, including public administration, general administration, all Indian services, district officers, the implementation of the special program and the welfare of people with disabilities, according to an official press release on Friday.

Who are all in Stalin’s cabinet in Tamil Nadu?

Party veteran and general secretary Duraimurugan, who held portfolios such as Public Works during the previous DMK rule (2006-11), is one of the 18 former ministers to join the cabinet.

In Stalin’s cabinet, Duraimurugan will be the Minister of Water Resources in charge of irrigation projects and other projects, including mines and minerals. FULL LIST HERE

Former Chennai Mayor Ma Subramanian and PK Sekarbabu, the strong man of DMK in north Chennai, are among the 15 ministers who would be ministers for the first time.

Subramanian and Sekarbabu were assigned the departments of health and family welfare, as well as Hindu religious and charitable foundations.

Palanivel Thiagarajan, a former investment banker, was charged with the Finance School Education Department and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. Thiagarajan and Poyyamozhi were ministers for the first time and belonged to prominent families who led the Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu and who also worked for the DMK for a long time.

The cabinet has two ministers, P Geetha Jeevan, a former minister who has received welfare and women’s empowerment, and N Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, who has been appointed Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare.

Selvaraj, who will be minister for the first time, had ousted BJP Tamil Nadu unit chief L Murugan from the constituency of Dharapuram.

V Senthil Balaji, who was Minister of Transport between 2011 and 2015 during the previous AIADMK rule under the leadership of J Jayalalithaa and joined DMK in 2018, has received the electricity department and portfolios for prohibitions and excise duties.

Tiruchirappalli-based party power and former minister KN Nehru has been appointed Minister of City Administration, a department that Stalin had headed during the party’s previous tenure.

KKSSR Ramachandran, another veteran and former minister, would be the finance minister. I Periyasamy, who was Minister of Finance in his previous term, was appointed Minister of Cooperation.

K Ponmudi has got the university department back, which he held from 2006-11. Tiruvannamalai’s party heavyweight EV Velu, who was previously Food Minister, has been appointed Minister of Public Works.

MRK Panneerselvam, also a former minister, would now be Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Thangam Thennarasu, also former minister, and S Reghupathy, former trade union minister for the environment, would be ministers for industry and law, respectively.

KR Periakaruppan, TM Anbarasan, MP Saminathan, all former ministers, have also been appointed ministers and have assigned the Rural Development, Rural Industry and Information and Public Relations departments.

K Ramachandran, a former minister, has received a forestry department. S Muthusamy (Housing), Anita R Radhakrishnan (Fisheries) and SR Rajakannappan (Transport) are among others part of the 34-member cabinet.

CV Ganesan (work), T. Mano Thangaraj (information technology), M. Mathiventhan (tourism) are among the first ministers. R Sakkarapani (groceries), R Gandhi (handlooms and textiles), P Moorthy (trade taxes), SS Sivasankar (welfare of backward classes), Siva V Meyyanathan (environment), Gingee KS Masthan (minority welfare) and SM Nasar (dairy) are also beginners .
