A couple of doctors were shot dead by unknown bikers in the city of Rajasthan in Bharatpur on Friday in broad daylight. The incident was captured on camera.

The two bicycle-borne assailants who shot Sudeep Gupta, 46, and his wife Seema Gupta, 44, were identified as the brother and cousin of a woman who was allegedly murdered in 2019.

“In 2019, a woman Sudeep allegedly had a relationship with died along with her son after the doctor’s wife and mother allegedly set their house on fire. The doctor, his wife and his mother were all in jail after the incident and all three are currently on bail, ”said Devendra Bishnoi, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bharatpur.

The doctor couple was tracked down by Anuj Gurjar and Mahesh Gurjar – Deepa’s brother and first cousin – to Shri Radhe Chowraha in Bharatpur on Friday afternoon, whereupon the couple were shot dead at close range.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that it is a matter of revenge killing. Efforts are being made to arrest them. An FIR has been registered on this matter and further investigations are ongoing, ”said Bishnoi.

The couple were shot dead by unidentified villains the day after Bharatpur MP Ranjeeta Koli’s car was attacked in the district’s Dharsoni village, prompting the opposition to question Rajasthan’s law and order.

Satish Poonia, leader of the Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), hit the state government led by the Congress, saying, “A MP was attacked last night and a doctor and his wife were killed today in broad daylight. When the prime minister [Ashok Gehlot] does not strengthen law and order, people will take to the streets to protest against the appalling legal and regulatory situation in the state. “
