Election result 2021: Counting of votes today in Bengal, Assam, Kerala, TN, Puducherry


The counting of votes, which will be requested in the four states of West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, as well as in the Union Territory (UT) of Puducherry, begins on Sunday morning amid tight security and Covid security protocols as the political parties on the elections anxiously waiting for results.

The counting of the postal ballot papers starts at 8 a.m. The votes that are requested in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) are counted half an hour later. During the day, the results will be clearer in the four states and one UT, but the official announcements on some individual seats can continue well into the night.

NO VICTORY PROCEDURES, ROADSHOWS

The electoral commission of India (ECI) has banned victory processions and post-vote roadshows across the country for the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A maximum of two people may accompany the victorious candidate or his representative in order to receive the election certificate from the returnees. Some high courts have issued similar orders.

WEST BENGAL

It appears to be a direct battle between the BJP and Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee’s TMC. Whoever receives the magic number 147 in the house of 294 will only be known after the votes have been counted.

A three-stage security precaution was taken in 108 counting centers, in which EVMs that had been queried and VVPAT (Paper Audit Trail) units that could be checked by voters were kept in strong rooms.

292 observers were appointed and 256 Central Forces companies were deployed to census centers in 23 districts of West Bengal.

KERALA, TAMIL NADU, PUDUCHERRY

All arrangements have been made for the counting of votes in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

In Kerala there were up to 957 candidates, including Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, were in the battle for 140 meeting seats. Of the 633 halls in 114 counting centers, 527 are earmarked for listing EVM votes, while the remaining 106 are earmarked for counting letter votes.

In Tamil Nadu, nearly 4,000 candidates were fighting, including Prime Minister K Palaniswami and DMK President MK Stalin.

There are 75 counting centers in Tamil Nadu. Cumulatively, there would be 3,372 EVM tables, and the count is expected to be between 13 and 43 rounds in each of the 234 segments.

The Madras High Court has appealed to Tamil Nadu political leaders and party cadres not to hold any celebrations, including cracking crackers, after the results are announced.

Former Prime Minister in Puducherry N Rangaswamy headed the Alliance All India NR Congress-BJP and the Congress-DMK Combine are the main candidates for power. Up to 1,382 employees would be used to count the votes in the UT, while around 400 would be responsible for security tasks.

ASSAM

In Assam, around 35,000 census officers and agents who are part of the explanation of the results process have been tested for the virus. Each counting hall has a maximum of seven tables, and there is a micro-observer for each table.

Postal ballot papers are first counted from 8 a.m. The counting of the votes cast in EVMs begins at 8.30 a.m. There are 126 strong rooms that have kept EVMs and VVPATs. According to the guidelines of the election commission, the state government banned victory rallies on the day of the results.
