The Covid-19 vaccination for people over the age of 18 began in the second phase of the Indian vaccination campaign, as only limited units were available nationwide. While the drive continues to operate at its best capacity, slots are hard to find, especially for those over the age of 18 and under 45.
The only way to get vaccinated is to register through the government’s official CoWin portal and book a slot. Aside from the low availability of slots, the problem is that there is no way CoWin can notify users when a slot is available in their area.
So what if you don’t want to repeatedly check the website for slots availability? Some new websites have the answer.
These websites essentially act as a notification system to inform those who have registered for the vaccine of the availability of slots in their area. That being said, some also show information about the vaccine centers and the type of vaccine available in the area – Covaxin or Covishield.
These websites use CoWIN Application Program Interfaces (APIs) to serve as a user interface and to use the information. The data therefore come directly from the government according to the official figures. Users can simply enter their district or PIN code and see all information about vaccine availability in their regions.
In case you would like to be informed about the availability of slots for the Covid-19 vaccine, here are the websites that you can use.
Note that these websites cannot be used to book an appointment for the Covid-19 vaccine. Users are only allowed to do this via the CoWin portal. They can only be informed of vaccine availability through these websites so that they can make an appointment in good time.
1. VaccinateMe.in
The new website was recently launched by the health tech startup HealthifyMe and offers information on a number of questions. This includes the separate availability of vaccine slots for the 18+ and 45+ categories, the type of vaccine available, and more.
Users visiting the website can easily search for information by entering their district or PIN code. With VaccinateMe.in you can filter the results by age group (18+ or 45+), vaccine type (Covishield or Covaxin) and cost (free or paid).
Regarding the availability of the vaccine, the website will show the date a slot is available and the total number of slots available that day.
Selecting a date when vaccines are available will take users to the next page which shows the names, areas, hospital / vaccine center PIN code and the total number of units of vaccine present. Users can click any button at their convenience to be redirected to the CoWin portal for booking.
In the event that no slot is available in the near future, users can be notified via email or WhatsApp.
2. Getjab.in
Possibly the first of its kind in India, Getjab.in is a one-page website developed by four friends from different fields. The purpose of the website is no other than to notify you when a slot for the Covid-19 vaccine is available in your area.
It works very directly. The website, titled CoWin Slot Notifier, needs your name, your district in India and your email ID to send the email to the time the Covid-19 vaccination slots are open in your area . There is an option to register your phone number as the website plans to provide SMS notification functionality soon.
Website users will not receive an email from Getjab.in until vaccination slots are available in their area. The website does not send confirmation of registration or other emails. It promises not to pass on or sell the data to third parties.
3. Findmyvaccine.in
The website created by Verloop.io notifies users of available slots for the Covid-19 vaccine in one simple step. Note that the website only works for the 18 to 45 age group.
Users visiting the site will need to enter their state and district to find available slots in their region. If there is no slot availability, they can register their name and phone number to be notified when a slot is next available. The website also offers the ability to notify users through WhatsApp.
Aside from these three, there are several new websites that can help with the cause. Findslot.in and Under45.in are some of them. Both of these work in a similar fashion to the websites mentioned above, although at the time of writing they are not yet fully functional. The websites cite large traffic and the corresponding rate limits that CoWin has put in place on the use of its APIs as the reason for not receiving real-time data.
