Govt issues fresh order to procure vaccines from Serum, Bharat Biotech


While India is grappling with an unprecedented surge in Covid-19 cases, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Twitter that the government has received new orders to source vaccines from both the Serum Institute of India as well as from Bharat Biotech.

In a tweet, Hardeep Singh Puri wrote: “Just a gentle reminder for those who cause hesitation and panic. More than 18 doses of Cr vaccine have been administered to date. Pre-orders for May, June and July 2021 have been placed with the two manufacturers and payments have been made . ” been made.”

In two more tweets, Puri explained what vaccines were obtained and where they were from.

The tweet mentioned that the government had placed an order for Rs 1,176 worth of 5,6 crore vaccines through the PM Cares Fund, which will include 11 crore doses. He added that on May 10, another 10 crore doses worth Rs 1,575 were administered by the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

His tweet read, “Preorders at @SerumInstIndia. 5.60 Cr vaccines worth 1,176 Cr by PM Cares. 11 Cr doses on April 22, 2021 and 10 Cr doses worth 1,575 Cr from @MoHFW_INDIA on May 10, 2021. “

In a separate tweet, the minister added that the government had placed another order for 1 crore vaccines worth 216.83 crore through the PM Cares Fund. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also ordered 5 crore and 2 crore cans worth 866 crore and 315 crore on April 22nd and May 10th. Both orders were placed with BharatBiotech.

His tweet reads: “1 Cr vaccines worth 216.83 Cr by PM Cares. 5 Cr cans worth 866 Cr on April 22nd and 2 Cr cans worth 315 Cr by MoHFW on May 10th, 2021. All of these cans will be shipped by July 2021. “
