IAF transport aircraft catches fire upon landing at Delhi airport, crew escapes unhurt


An Indian Air Force (IAF) Dornier 228 transport aircraft caught fire while landing at Delhi airport on Sunday evening. A probe was ordered for the incident.

A Dornier transport aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) was involved in a minor accident today. According to initial information, the aircraft caught fire on Sunday evening when landing on the main runway of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The IAF said in a statement that the crew and the aircraft are safe. Further investigations would be carried out to determine the cause of the accident, it said.

Sources told India Today that a fire was observed at the wheel of the IAF Dornier 228. The airport rescue and fire services reached the construction site and put out the fire at the controls of the turboprop airliner, sources added.
