IMA demands action against Ramdev for calling allopathy ‘stupid science’, blaming it for Covid deaths

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Saturday called on the central government to take strict action against yoga guru Ramdev after allegedly calling allopathy a “stupid science” and finding that “lakhs of [Covid] Patients have died after taking allopathic drugs. “

The IMA said his “unlearned” comments could mislead people. On the flip side, the Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust, which Ramdev is the founder, said the remarks have been taken out of context.

“STUPID SCIENCE”

According to IMA, a video posted on social media shows Ramdev calling modern medicine “stupid science.” He goes on to say that drugs like Remdesivir and Fabiflu, approved by the Drugs Controller General of India, did not treat Covid patients in India and caused the death of people’s lakhs.

In its statement, the IMA said that the yoga guru should be prosecuted under the Epidemic Diseases Act because his “uninformed” statements “pose a threat to the country’s educated society as well as the poor people who fall victim to him “.

“Create fear”

“The Union Minister of Health who is himself a practicing allopathic graduate student in modern medicine and is its director [health] The ministry should either accept the challenge and reproach of this gentleman and dissolve the modern medical facility, or bravely confront and prosecute the person for their arson to the sovereignty of the country and book them under the Epidemic Act to save millions of people from such unscientific utterances “said the IMA.

The IMA claimed Ramdev had created a sense of fear among the population to “sell his illegal and unapproved so-called drugs and make money at the public’s expense”.

IMA’S DEMAND

They demanded that he be prosecuted for endangering the lives of many by advising them not to heed the advice of allopathic doctors.

“If the minister [Harsh Vardhan] If we do not take suo moto action, we will be forced to use democratic weapons to convey the truth to the common man. We will knock on the doors of the judiciary to achieve the right justice, ”the IMA said in a statement.

The Medical Association has sent Ramdev a legal notice asking for a “written apology” and “recall of statements”.

The Resident Doctors’ Associations of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Safdarjung Hospital also condemned Ramdev’s statements and called for action.

PATANJALI’S ANSWER

In response, Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust said the allegations were false in their testimony. The organization said, “It is made clear that the truncated version of the video is completely out of the context of what Swami ji is supposed to convey.”

According to Patanjali, Ramdev “read out a forwarded WhatsApp message that he and various other members who attended the event had received”.

Insisting that Ramdev have “the utmost consideration” for health workers who have worked tirelessly during the pandemic, Patanjali stated, “Swami ji has no ill will against modern science and good practitioners of modern medicine. What is ascribed to him is false and nugatory. “

PATANJALIS ‘CORONIL’ MEDICINE

Early February, Patanjali has launched its Coronil drug for the treatment of Covid patients. Ramdev’s organization claimed it received due approval from the Ayush Union Ministry under the World Health Organization’s certification system.

The Union Minister of Health, Harsh Vardhan, and Minister of Transport, Nitin Gadkari, attended the launch event.

However, the WHO said it had not confirmed the effectiveness of a traditional drug for treating Covid-19.
