The Uttarakhand branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has issued a libel note of 1,000 rupees on yoga guru Ramdev for his recent controversial remarks against allopathic medicine for treating Covid-19 cases.

In its libel announcement, IMA Uttarakhand stated that if Ramdev does not post a video contradicting his statements on allopathic medicine or submits a written apology within the next 15 days, he will be charged 1000 rupees within the next 15 days.

In addition, the IMA Uttararanchal State Branch had written to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat against Ramdev’s statements against the allopathic medical profession, “in the hope of immediate and tough action” against him.

Citing a video shared on social media, the The Indian Medical Association said Ramdev made a claim that allopathy is a “stupid science” and drugs like Remdesivir, Faviflu and other drugs approved by the Drugs Controller General of India have failed to treat Covid-19 patients.

Ramdev’s alleged comments on allopathy sparked controversy with medical bodies – IMA, Resident Doctors Associations of AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospitals – seeking action against the yoga guru.

Minister of Health of the Union The hard Vardhan called the statement of the yoga guru Ramdev on Sunday about allopathic drugs “extremely unhappy” and asked him to withdraw the remark, saying it disrespect “corona warriors” and could break the morale of health workers.

In a strongly worded letter to Ramdev, the minister also said that “with your testimony you not only disregarded the Corona warriors, but also deeply hurt the feelings of your compatriots”.

“Your statement about allopathy can break the morale of healthcare workers and weaken our fight against COVID-19,” Vardhan said, adding that doctors fight day and night to save people’s lives.

Ramdev later replied to the Minister of Health that he was withdrawing his words, even if doctors across the country continued to dismiss him over the remarks.
