India records highest single-day toll of 4,529 Covid deaths, over 2.67 lakh fresh cases


India recorded the highest number in a day with 4,529 Covid deaths on Wednesday. The country recorded 2,67,334 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the active case count to 32,26,719.

With a new jump of over 2.67 lakh of Covid-19 cases, the total number of cases in the country now stands at 2,54,96,330.

Up to 3,89,851 discharges have been made in the past 24 hours, which is more than the cases reported daily.

The top five states that recorded maximum cases are Tamil Nadu with 33,059 cases, followed by Kerala with 31,337 cases, Karnataka with 30,309 cases, Maharashtra with 28,438 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 21,320 cases.

TOP DEVELOPMENTS:

1. India had the highest Covid deaths with 4,529 deaths in the past 24 hours.

2. The southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka are the three most affected states in the country.

3. Maharashtra (1,291) reported maximum casualties, followed by Karnataka with 525 daily deaths.

4. Record tests of more than 20 lakh have been carried out in the past 24 hours.

5. Active falls have decreased by more than 1.27 lakh; On Wednesday 13.12 lakh were vaccinated.

6. The five largest states account for 54.05 percent of the newly reported cases, with Tamil Nadu alone responsible for 12.37 percent of the new cases.
