An Indian-American man from San Francisco ended up in jail after posting stunt videos of himself in the back seat of his Tesla. He committed the same crime soon after he was released from prison. The incident was first reported by the California Highway Police when they were looking for the man.
MAN ENDS IN PRISON TO RIDE THE BACK SEAT OF TESLA WITHOUT A DRIVER
The 25-year-old man, identified as Param Sharma, is notorious for posting videos of himself driving a Tesla without anyone behind the wheel and flaunting his lavish lifestyle on social media.
On May 8, the California Highway Police posted on Facebook that they had been informed of a man driving the backseat of a Tesla on Bay Area roads without a driver. They said the case was still under investigation and they were looking for the man.
Sharma was then arrested over the weekend for sitting in the back seat of a Tesla Model 3 powered by an autopilot. However, shortly after his release, he drove to an interview with KTVU, a news agency, on Wednesday while in the back seat of a brand new Tesla with no one behind the wheel. He even said to the point of sale: “I feel safer back here than up there.”
KTVU reported that when they asked him if he bought a new Tesla after the previous one was confiscated when he was incarcerated, Sharma said, “Yes, I’m rich like (expletive). I’m very rich.”
According to CBS News, Sharma has been sent to Santa Rita Prison for two cases of reckless driving and disobeying a peace officer. According to reports, Sharma frequently posts videos on his Instagram account @goldcollarlavishwhere he flaunts his wealth.
According to Tesla, driving a car does not make the car a self-driving vehicle. The automaker has often emphasized that the autopilot function is a practical driver assistance system that should only be used with a fully attentive driver.
