India’s total death toll crosses 3 lakhs; no drop in daily fatalities at 4,000


India continues to see more than 4,000 deaths in Covid, according to the Union Ministry of Health and the country’s death toll topped 3 lakhs on Monday. In the past 24 hours, India reported 2,22,315 new Covid cases – a decrease from 240,842 cases reported on Sunday and 4,454 deaths.

India As of Sunday morning, 2,40,842 (2.40 lakh) fresh coronavirus cases and 3,741 deaths were recorded.

TOP DEVELOPMENTS

1. The five main states that recorded maximum cases are Tamil Nadu with 35,483 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 26,672 cases, Karnataka with 25,979 cases, Kerala with 25,820 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 18,767 cases.

2. Tamil Nadu accounts for 16 percent of all cases, all other states far below.

3. Around 59.7 percent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Tamil Nadu alone responsible for 15.96% of the new cases.

4. Maharashtra reported maximum casualties with 1,320 deaths in the past 24 hours, followed by Karnataka with 6.24 daily deaths.

5. Worrying death tolls from Maharashtra and Karnataka together report nearly 2,000 deaths.

6. Active falls now at 27 lakhs, a decrease of nearly 10 lakhs in 10 days.

7. Test positivity rates are falling everywhere, less than 3 percent in Delhi.
