As the Covid-19 infection spreads in the rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Territory government has decided to set up 5-bed Covid care centers at the Panchayat level of all 20 districts.

To effectively implement this plan, members of the Panchayat and Block Development Council were engaged. The Asha workers and Anganwadi workers were also asked to raise public awareness of the pandemic.

The centers will be provided with basic isolation facilities such as bed, water, medication, masks and gloves. Patients can even contact doctors via telemedicine and helpline members.

The Covid Care Centers will be linked to primary health centers and community health centers so anyone who needs major treatment can be transferred to a dedicated Covid hospital.

Speaking to India Today, the sarpanch of Kartholi village, Samba district, Jammu division, Tarsem Singh said that shortly after Governor Manoj Sinha issued instructions, the authorities in cooperation with Panchayat members set up a Covid care center in the village be . He added that they were given drug kits, disinfectant bottles, masks and gloves.

Reluctance to test for Covid-19

The Sarpanch also said that locals were reluctant to test for Covid-19 in the village. Many people did not seek medical advice when they developed symptoms in the recent past.

To meet this challenge, the Panchayat members and the local administration have started an awareness campaign in the village, said Tarsem Singh. Tests in the village have also been stepped up to identify positive cases in the areas.

According to officials, 25 positive cases and 1 death have been reported outside the village so far.
