Maharashtra records 960 Covid deaths in last 24 hours, toll crosses 80,000


Maharashtra recorded 960 Covid deaths within 24 hours on Saturday, increasing its cumulative toll to 80,512. There were 695 Covid deaths in the state on Friday. Maharashtra’s Covid death rate is currently 1.51 percent.

The state registered 34,848 new Covid-19 cases in a 24-hour period on Saturday. This is around 5,000 fewer than reported the previous day.

On the positive side, 59,073 patients were discharged on Saturday after a 24-hour recovery. The total number of Covid-19 patients discharged after full recovery in the state is now 47.67,053 and the recovery rate is 89.2 percent.

There are currently 4,94,032 active cases in Maharashtra.

While 34,47,653 people in the state are currently in domestic isolation, another 28,727 are in institutional quarantine facilities.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3.08.39.404 laboratory samples have been tested for Covid-19. Of these, a total of 53,44,063 have tested positive for the virus. This means that Maharashtra’s case positivity rate is 17.33 percent.

Meanwhile, On May 13, the Maharashtra state government extended the lockdown-like restrictions in the state by 7 a.m. on June 1 to control the spread of the virus. A negative RT-PCR test report is mandatory for anyone entering the state using any means of transport.
