The case against Kamal Nath was registered on the basis of a complaint from BJP leaders, including MLAs Vishwas Sarang and Rameshwar Sharma. Among the complainants was the BJP District President of the BJP, Sumeet Pachouri.

The videos show the former prime minister saying at a press conference in Ujjain on Saturday, “Corona, which has spread around the world, is called the Indian variant of the virus.”
Such statements from Kamal Nath, who is also the opposition leader in the MP assembly create confusion and defame the country internationally, said the complainants. They also accused Nath of violating WHO guidelines, claiming that his actions constituted an uproar.
