The Kolkata Supreme Court issued bail issued by the four leaders of the All India Trinamool Congress held on Monday in Narada spiked case. The defendant remains in custody at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) until Wednesday.

The previous Monday had a special CBI dish in Calcutta bail granted to the four guides – TMC Governing Ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra and Ex-Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee. However, they were not released immediately.

Shabba Hakim, daughter of West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim, took to Twitter to allege the four defendants were illegally detained and the CBI court disregarded the verdict.

The four had remained in custody because the CBI had moved the Supreme Court to move the matter out of the special CBI court in Calcutta and move it outside of West Bengal.

TMC protests

The arrests on Monday sparked a spark massive protests in front of the CBI office. When TMC supporters out in West Bengal shouted slogans and hurled stones CM Mamata Banerjee entered the CBI office and asked to be arrested along with their leaders.

The four TMC leaders were arrested for allegedly “demanding and accepting illegal gratification in order to show favor to a private person posing as a representative of a fictitious company”. The alleged act was captured on camera.

The stab operation was performed by Narada News in the state. Their tapes featured 12 TMC ministers, leaders, and an IPS official accepting bribes. The tapes were released ahead of the 2016 Bengali Assembly polls.

In March 2017, based on a PIL seeking an impartial investigation into the Narada tapes, the Calcutta Supreme Court ordered the CBI to conduct a preliminary investigation into the case.
