The raid on Khan Chacha, a place haunted by politicians, movie stars and sports personalities over the past few decades, sparked a Twitter frenzy as people rushed to beat up the legendary establishment’s owner for tarnishing his good name would have. However, most of them got it wrong at first.
How Navneet Kalra took over the Khan Chacha brand
The Khan Chacha brand wasn’t always owned by Navneet Kalra. The restaurant, which has now become a chain, was first opened in 1972 by Haji Banda Hasan or “Khan Chacha” in the back streets of Khan Market. Over the years, it went from a small booth down the back alley to a brand to be reckoned with as everyone from college students to celebrities flocked here for a bite to eat.
When Haji Banda Hasan’s sons, Javed and Saleem, entered the business, they expanded. In 2010 the Navneet Kalra family joined. For a few years the partnership flourished only to end in a split. The two sides waged a bitter legal battle over the “Khan Chacha” trademark. Kalra alleged that Haji Banda Hasan and his sons transferred the rights to the brand name to him, while they claimed the documents were forged.
The brand name is currently used by Navneet Kalra while Haji Banda Hasan and his sons have launched a new chain of restaurants.
However, this did not prevent the Twiterrati from dragging Haji Banda Hasan and his family into the oxygen cylinder controversy.

The record was only cleared after some people clarified on a social level who was the owner of the raided restaurants.
It has to be said again and again that the owner of Khan Chacha is not a Muslim

I feel sorry for poor Khan Chacha and his family. First they lost the use of their name to Navneet Kalra and now they are being dragged through the mud through no fault of their own because Kalra used its restaurants to store concentrators that are supposed to be sold on the black market. https://t.co/4KgL4gFqYo
