Seniors who have not yet taken their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine or who have taken the first dose will now receive the recordings at a vaccination center near their home. The facility will also include people with disabilities under the age of 60, the central government announced on Thursday.

However, this does not mean Door to door vaccination.

The Union Ministry of Health has issued guidelines on this. The National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 had recommended a proposal from a Technical Expert Committee on guidelines for “Covid Vaccination Centers near Home” (NHCVC) for the elderly and citizens with disabilities.

The ministry accepted these recommendations, saying that for elderly and disabled citizens, NHCVC would take a “community-based, flexible and people-centered approach, bringing the Covid vaccination centers closer to their homes”.

She added that these recommendations are aimed at ensuring the vaccination of the elderly and disabled people with reduced mobility due to their physical condition.

“The recommendations are a response to the need to improve access by bringing vaccination services closer to the community while observing all necessary precautions and safety measures,” the Ministry of Health said.

Those eligible for a Covid-19 vaccination at NHCVC are:

  • All persons over 60 years of age without vaccination or first dose vaccination.
  • Anyone under the age of 60 with a disability due to physical or medical conditions.

The ministry said these special vaccination centers can be set up in facilities outside of the health facility, such as: B. in a community center, an RWA center / office, a Panchayat house, school buildings, old people’s homes, etc.

The site for NHCVC is pre-identified in collaboration with community groups and RWAs. Such locations should have a vaccination room and waiting area with adequate access for the target audience, e.g. B. A ramp for wheelchair access and an observation room to ensure that there is a 30-minute wait after vaccination as per Health Department guidelines.

The Department has also asked States / UTs to ensure that:

  • Registration and appointment of beneficiaries – either in advance, on-site or to facilitate the cohort registration process at Co-WIN
  • Line listing of beneficiaries
  • Identification of the NHCVC agency and link with existing Covid vaccination centers
  • Micro-planning for vaccination sessions at NHCVC
  • Make it easier for the elderly and those with special needs to travel to the meeting location wherever needed
  • Make the vaccination center friendly for the elderly and people with special needs.
