Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has moved the Supreme Court claiming there is a “conspiracy to accuse him” by opening an “internal investigation” against him.
In his plea before the Supreme Court, Param Bir Singh requested that all cases against him be transferred to another state.
He has also alleged that he has been “threatened” with multiple investigations for failing to withdraw his allegations of corruption and extortion against former Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The Supreme Court will hear Param Bir Singh’s plea for cases against him to be transferred to another state tomorrow.
Why is Param Bir Singh on the news?
March, Param Bir Singh wrote a letter to Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and accused Anil Deshmukh, the then interior minister, of asking Mumbai police officers to extort 100 rupees a month for him.
He also blamed Anil Deshmukh Interfering in police investigationsincluding the probe on the death of Dadra & Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha MP Mohan Delkar.
Anil Deshmukh denied these allegations, claiming that these were Param Bir Singh’s attempts to evade action against him because of the security breaches in front of the home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai, where a The fear of bombing took place on February 25th.
However, as pressure mounted, Anil Deshmukh resigned as Home Secretary after the Bombay Supreme Court ordered a preliminary CBI investigation into him based on allegations made by Param Bir Singh.
On April 30th, Param Bir Singh wrote another letter (this time to the CBI) claiming so Maharashtra DGP had offered him an “agreement” in exchange for withdrawing his allegations against Anil Deshmukh.
No later than the Maharashtra police on May 12th began his investigation against Param Bir Singh in a suspected blackmail and corruption case. One day later it was him granted a bail prior to arrest from Bombay High Court until May 20th.
