Six party workers killed, houses, shops vandalised by TMC, alleges Bengal BJP. MHA seeks report


The Bengali wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that at least six of its workers across the state have been killed since Sunday. They also claimed that a few hundred party offices and homes of BJP workers across the state were raided and trends became clearer.

Late Monday the Interior Ministry (MHA) asked the West Bengal government for a report on post-election violence against opposition political workers in the state.

In a video that went viral on Twitter, a group of men armed with bamboo sticks and poles were seen searching houses for BJP workers. Later, a series of pictures and videos making the rounds on Twitter suggested that BJP workers in Bengal had been threatened and attacked.

Violence on the day of the result

The BJP alleged on Sunday that one of its party offices in Hooghly district was set on fire and some of its leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, were harassed by TMC activists in other parts of the state after poll results showed the camp was Mamata Banerjee had been set on fire to retain power in Bengal.

A senior police officer in Hooghly said he was looking into the matter and those guilty would be punished.

A local BJP leader claimed that TMC activists set fire to the Arambagh office of the saffron camp shortly after the defeat of their party candidate Sujata Mondal.

However, sources in the Mamata Banerjee-led party denied the claim.

“The TMC, to avenge the defeat of its candidate, has set fire to our party office,” said the local BJP leader.

In the Purba Medinipur district, TMC men reportedly demonstrated next to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari’s vehicle, who managed to win the coveted Nandigram seat by defeating Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee in a battle for the neck.

Some protesters hit the windshield of Adhikari’s car and hurled stones near a counting center in Haldia, members of the Saffron Party alleged.

“He’s a traitor. He used unfair means to change the results,” said a TMC activist.
Supporters of the two parties were beaten in the Barasat area of ​​North 24 Parganas after violent arguments over the election results, police sources said.

The BJP also alleged that one of its members was badly beaten by TMC activists in the city’sbelhata area, a charge that was denied by the Mamata Banerjee camp.
