SpiceJet crew derostered after video of mid-air wedding goes viral, airline to lodge complaint


The SpiceJet crew was fired after a video of an airborne wedding breaching Covid-19 social distancing norms went viral on social media. The airline has been instructed to file a complaint against those who have violated Covid’s guidelines.

The SpiceJet crew was removed from the roster after a video of an airborne wedding in the presence of guests and relatives on a charter flight that violated Covid-19 social distancing norms went viral on social media. While the crew on the SpiceJet flight was being derostered, the airline was instructed to file a complaint against those who did not follow the Covid-19 rules.

The charter flight left Madurai Airport and stayed in the air for about two hours on Sunday morning before returning there. All passengers had submitted their Covid-negative RT-PCR report before boarding the flight to attend the airborne wedding.

Pictures and videos of the airborne wedding were shared on social media On Monday. The pictures and videos allegedly show people standing extremely close together while the couple ties the knot.

SpiceJet has also issued a statement on the controversy informing the customer who booked the flight about the Covid policy and being “denied permission to do airborne activities”.

Despite repeated requests and reminders, passengers did not follow Covid guidelines. The airline will take the appropriate action according to the rules.

The airline said the approval for this flight was taken as a “joy ride for the wedding group”.

“The agent and guest passengers were informed in detail, both verbally and in writing, about social distancing and safety standards that must be observed throughout the journey, both at the airport and on board the aircraft, according to Covid guidelines.”

SpiceJet said the passengers were not following the guidelines despite repeated requests and reminders from the crew.

“The group was repeatedly briefed on the safety standards to be followed by the cabin crew and it was recommended to follow the protocols set by the DGCA including restrictions on photography and videography. Despite repeated requests and reminders, passengers did not follow Covid guidelines . “

“The airline is taking appropriate action in accordance with the rules,” said SpiceJet.
