A Keralite woman working in Israel was killed in a Palestinian rocket attack on Tuesday, her family members said here.

They said the missile fell on the 31-year-old Soumya residence in Ashkelon city while talking to her husband Santhosh, who is in Kerala, on a video call that evening.

“My brother heard a big noise during the video call. Suddenly the phone was disconnected. Then we immediately contacted other Malayalees who worked there. That’s how we found out about the incident,” Santhosh’s brother Saji told PTI.

Soumya, who is from Keerithodu in Idukki District, has worked as a housemaid in Israel for the past seven years, her relatives said.

So far there is no official confirmation of the incident.

The newly elected leader of the MLA and the Nationalist Congress in Kerala, Mani C Kappan, condemned the incident.

In a Facebook post, Kappan, who represents the Pala seat in the Kerala Congregation, said that thousands of Keralites working in Israel live in fear.
